This week's best line up in a 4-3-3.
Goalkeeper
Leo Franco (Atletico Madrid): Made some crucial saves to keep Atleti in the game as Valladolid searched for their equaliser. The home side managed a draw in the end, but could have well won it but the Argentine. Fabulous showing on his return to the first team.
Defenders
Felipe (Deportivo): A superb display out on the left as Depor tore into Athletic. The Galicians may have lost Joan Capdevila, but have found an absolute gem of a left back - who can also score just as many goals. Features on the right this week, though.
Fabricio Coloccini (Deportivo): Yet again he was as solid as a rock as Depor motored into the top half of the table - yes, believe it or not - on the back of a 3-0 demolishing of Athletic Bilbao. Has been in superb form for two months now, and continues to score as well.
Santiago Acasiete (Almeria): Defended heroically to keep a clean sheet against Villarreal. Then, having stayed back for the majority of the game, did very well to move forward at the right moment and kept his cool to win the game.
Marcelo (Real Madrid): Surprised me with his mature display, I have to admit - a very promising showing to put aside some very forgettable ones. Looked a threat going forward, played neat and tidy passes and, crucially, defended well - even when Madrid were down to three at the back. If he can do this more consistently, he might just become one of the better left backs in the world.
Midfielders
Felipe Melo (Almeria): A solid midfield performance against one of the best teams in Spain. Was unable to really show what he can do in an attacking sense, but performed admirably to blank out the Villarreal midfield and pave the way for a famous win.
Pedro Leon (Levante): How refreshing to see Levante actually have a good game for once. They got the better of Betis all over the pitch, helped in no less measure by Leon's midfield showing. Deservedly got the only goal of the game to win it for the Valencian minnows.
Gonzalo Colsa (Racing Santander): Strong, uncompromising and barely put a foot wrong. Simply did not allow anyone to get past him, not without a fight at least. Even got onto the scoresheet for good measure. A Man of the Match display from the unheralded holding midfielder.
Forwards
Samuel Eto'o (Barcelona): Deserving of a lot more than a sloppy defensive showing from his teammates in what was a near-perfect striker's performance. Great movement, good technique, superb touch and quality finishing. He has missed so much of the season, and yet has 14 goals already.
Frederic Kanoute (Sevilla): Came on for a disappointing Luis Fabiano at the break, and turned the momentum of the game on its head. Rattled Mallorca's defence with his pace and power, scored one, and player a part in another as his team moved to within three points of a Champions League spot.
Marco Ruben (Recreativo Huleva): Very lively performance from the youngster, did well to take his first goal, though it must be said it did not cross the line. Was a menace all evening, and did brilliantly for the second header, chasing what was almost a lost cause, capitalising on a Valdes howler to float the ball into the back of the net from the most impossible of angles.

Honourable Mentions
Almeria's Crusat and Corona are both unlucky to miss out after impressing against Villarreal, as do Oscar Serrano and Mohamed Tchite for their part in the win over Valencia.
Valladolid's Jonathan Sesma and Victor put in energetic displays against Atletico, Depor's Sergio kept up his return to form with a goal and an assist against Athletic, while Wesley Sneijder marked an improved performance with a crucial goal to take Real Madrid nine points clear at the top of the table.
Mallorca's Daniel Guiza turned in another mercurial display despite ending up on the losing side, while Xisco continues to be the hottest striker in Spain over the last month.
